Where were you born? I was born in Nibbixwoud, at home, as the first of 4 children.
Do you have children? Yes, Loena and Lenn
Where did you give birth? With my daughter Loena I gave birth in the Dijklander Hospital. There were concerns about her growth, which is why my labor had to be induced. It was a very special and beautiful experience for me.
With our son, Lenn I gave birth very rapidly at home. It was a wonderful experience! Very special; it suddenly went so fast that I called my colleague too late, in the end Lenn was even born before she arrived. As a result, a very intimate setting: together with my partner, daughter still in bed and shortly after the birth my colleague came in. Fantastic!
Where and when did you graduate? In 2010 I graduated as a midwife in Amsterdam.
Why did you become a midwife? As a midwife it is very special to get to know (future) parents from the very beginning of the pregnancy and to guide them during this special and exciting period. The birth of a child, but also the birth of a father and mother! It is always very special to experience this period together. I find it extremely valuable to deal with so many different people, everyone is different and experiences it in their own way. In a next pregnancy, where you see the other children grow up and become big brother or sister, is also so nice to see. As a midwife you are part of a very special time in someone’s life. The best job there is! Furthermore, as a midwife you work independently and you run your own practice together with your colleagues. This variety is super fun!
Since when do you work at Eva van Hoorn? Since 2010 I’ve worked at Eva van Hoorn.
Do you have any specializations within Eva van Hoorn? Next to my job as midwife, I work as an officemanager.
What do you think is the strength of Eva van Hoorn?
A diverse team of incredibly committed, ambitious and interested women. Everyone wants the best for the pregnant woman and her baby. Everyone has their own qualities and because of this we have a very complete and loving team, of which I hope everyone feels trusted and at ease with.
What makes you happy? Good weather, good music, nice food and glowing and positive people!
What do you prefer to do in your free time? Cooking delicious (Surinamese) food, going out with my family, a day of shopping, doing chores at home and enjoying my daughter and son.
