Since 1993 I, Lisette Edelschaap, have been a midwife.
I started as a nurse, after this I moved to Belgium to get my degree in midwifery. during this I did a long internship in the Netherlands where I learned how to guide births at home.
On the coast, in Katwijk, I guided births of ‘Kattukkers’ for 8 years. I have been working in West Friesland since 2002. I have done so with great pleasure in a large and friendly team. That is where our strength lies, of Eva van Hoorn, because we all bring in many different ideas, each person with its own talents!
I hope through my contribution in the consultations that expectant parents are happily pregnant and go into labor with confidence. Despite the fact that a birth does not always go as planned and despite ‘the hard work’, as the Belgians say, it should still be a party!
Besides my work, in enjoy my time by doing and running my family with 4 children: Stef, Onno, Femke and Ciska were born at home. Giving birth at home was only possible because the deliveries went smoothly and rapidly, otherwise I would have gladly gone to the hospital. Unfortunately, more than 20 years ago, I also lost a son during pregnancy, for which no reason has been found for. Fortunately, most pregnancies and deliveries go well on their own or we can intervene in time, so that we can guide a healthy mother, a beautiful healthy baby and a happy family.
That makes me happy in my work!
